LET US INTRODUCE THE SDR COYOTE

The SDR Coyote is the newest car designed by the SDR team, we are very proud of this design and looking forward to building and testing it. Each year we go to competition thinking we have a great car, but by the time it’s all over, we realize we were way off in some areas. This year we think we have taken all the knowledge we have accumulated and come up with was we truly think will be our best car, the Coyote!

Build Day #2

Hey There Race Fans!

We had another amazing build day this weekend! Thank you to all the people who came out and help out! We were able to complete the chassis as far as we possibly could with the meatal we had in stock, now we are just waiting on our 0.035” tubing to come in then we can compete the chassis. We got the RHO’s and the SIM’s in place on last Tuesday, and on Saturday we build the as much as the rear bracing as we possibly could. With the chassis almost complete we are starting to look into testing the structural rigidity of the chassis. We are hoping to validate the numbers seen in FEA to real world numbers by performing this test.

Among this we built our fixtures for our front control arms as well so when material comes in we can get to work on making those as well. Once the lower control arms are competed we will bet testing the defection of the control arms under normal loading conditions. This is to make sure that the defection of the arms will not change the way the suspension handles. We have numbers for our FEA but we would like to get some validation for these numbers to make sure we are not missing some aspect of how the arm is loaded.

This weekend we were able to get our oldest car #43 or Yellow up and running too. We now have all three of our cars up and running and we can tell you it’s a blast! This is the first time that all three car have been up and running at the same time, it really cool to see the difference between the cars. It really shows how far this club has progress of the last few year, and we are truly excited to see how the newest car will pin up against the rest of them.

Once again thank you to everyone who came out and helped out!

Don’t forget we are not meeting this Saturday 10-11, unless we get parts in and you guys really want to work then we can change this.

A special thanks goes out to Rhett Sweeney for staying late and teaching our new guys the basics of using a lathe! You’re the best!

Build Day #1

Hey there race fans!

We had our first build day this Saturday, and it was amazing! We had a large turn out and we would like to thank everyone who came out and helped out. If you couldn't make it out this time make sure to come out next Saturday and join in the fun.

This build day we got two of older cars, Bruce (#39) and Red (#13), back up and running. We also started the build of this year new car. The Lower Fame Side (LFS) Members and the Firewall Members were all cut, bent, coped and tacked into place. This is the earliest the team has ever started a build, we are try to make sure we can finish this car a quick as possible so we can focus on testing this new car. There are a lot of high hope for this car and season, we are going to need all hands on deck to make this season the best in Sun Devil Racing history yet.

Make sure to come to come to the meeting on Tuesday the 30th in SIM 161. We will be discussing the plans for the next build day and some of the other project we want to start on the side. The car is very close to a complete design, and parts are flowing in waiting to be put on this car as soon as possible. So make sure to come out on Saturday the 4th and help out, also many of the leads are in the build area in the week day mornings till noon so come down, see us and hang out, you never know what you will learn!
